Plasterboard installation

Plasterboard construction needs planning around the use of the space. Its position, dimensions and requirements determine the appropriate system.

What would you like to change?

Describe whether you need a partition, suspended ceiling or repair to an existing structure. Note openings, light fittings and any points where items will be mounted.

Requirements to specify

Moisture resistance, sound insulation and fire protection requirements cannot be covered by a generic plasterboard description. They need a specified system and, where required, design by the appropriate professional.

Joints and final painting

Joint treatment and preparation for painting should be agreed with the construction. Clarify whether primer and final painting are included.

Coordinating other work

Electrical or other installations need coordination before the construction is closed. They are not automatically included in plasterboard work.

Plasterboard partitions and false ceilings

Partitions and false ceilings have different support and detailing requirements. Describe dimensions, door openings, lighting and items that will be fixed to the construction. Heavy fittings should not be treated as an afterthought. For a suspended ceiling, coordinate services, access panels and the final room height. A drawing or photograph can support an initial estimate, but the final construction requires assessment of actual conditions and suitable support points.

Board types, joints and finishing

Standard, moisture-resistant or fire-rated board alone does not establish a specific performance. The complete system, supports, joints and installation to specification matter. Moisture-resistant board is not waterproofing. Clarify the room requirements and any necessary design input. For the final appearance, agree joint treatment, smoothing, primer and painting. Light falling along the surface can reveal small imperfections, so the lighting arrangement should be discussed before specifying the finish.
